COVID-19 is reported to have reached Dharavi slums, the largest in India at Mumbai, on the shores of the Arabian Sea. It packs a million people in pigeonhole homes barely 8×10 feet in size, with families sometimes numbering six or seven. Some reports claim there is one toilet for every thousand and four hundred people. Social distancing is virtually impossible.
This may prove to be the ultimate battleground between human immune system and the Coronavirus. It fact, it may have been a continuous battlefield against every flu and other infections that come seasonally year upon year upon mankind.
Dharavi is not the largest slum in Asia. Also, outside of Asia there are other larger slums. What happens there with regard to Coronavirus is also worth noting. My guess is, these people have successfully overcome past flu and other infections, and they will overcome this one too – proving one again that this 2019-nCOV virus that is supposed to give us COVID-19 sickness, is a minor threat, more or less like a seasonal flu, killing less that last years flu in some places and more in some other. Time will tell if my guess is right.
The slums may prove if Coronavirus is really fearsome, or not so much. Hopefully there will be decisions to improve their living condition, or find ways to create more living space
Meanwhile, pls pray for this jam-packed multi-religious multi-ethnic community.
