Canada GMO Awareness in Action is hosting the December 9th Genetically Engineered Foods & Human Health Cross-Canada Speaker’s Tour in Calgary Alberta, a rapidly growing city of 1.15 million people situated on the Bow River in an area of foothills and prairie approximately 80 km east of the Canadian Rockies. We are deeply concerned that many people in Alberta and in Canada are not aware of the health risks associated with the genetically engineered foods that they and their children consume daily.

The people of Southern Alberta have proven through the June 2013 flooding that they are people of great resilience and great caring. We are asking the people of Alberta to put their great spirit, commitment and caring into this very serious public health issue which demands immediate attention for the future of our children.

The evening presentation by Dr. Thierry Vrain, a retired soil biologist and genetic engineer who after a 30-year career with Agriculture Canada no longer supports GE technology, and Dr. Shiv Chopra, a former Health Canada senior scientific advisor who blew the whistle on bovine growth hormone (rBGH) and other products endangering public health, will present a scientific point of view on the risks of genetic engineering to human health, and will discuss issues and solutions regarding the Canadian regulatory process.
